Postbox

Today let me show a postbox in Korea. It's simply red and the symbol under the sign, 'post' is a magpie which is believed to bring good news or welcome guests when they chirp.

Nice photo!
The one in Japan is red with two mouths, too.

Glad to see all mail boxes around the world are pretty universal in shapes and colors. :-)

I am dying to visit Seoul, Korea. Hopefully in the next couple of years or so.

That's an idea for a monthly theme day! It's curious that they choose a magpie as a symbol - in Europe, or the UK anyway, the magpie is associated with stealing things (The birds often steal small shining things like jewellery, and hide them in their nests, which I think is kind of cute).
I'm glad you liked the Zurich photos, and they reminded you of your visit.

I like the mailbox but I'm very intrigued by the sign! What does it say?

Here too they are red :-) May I ask you what is written in the other sign beside the mailbox?

Rarely does the post office bring me good news. It always seems like bills and junk mail are all we get.

Macky - What are the mouths for in Japan? In our case, they are respectively for normal and express mails within the country. The air mails should always be weighed at the post office.

Ming - Well, I really really want to visit NYC soon!

Richard - I thought that too!^.^ I know magpies are considered rather a bit evil in Western countries but that's how we see crows. I did enjoy your photos of Zurich a lot, as fancy as your city.

Fénix, Fabrizio - The words on the bluish green board are '번역(beonyeok: translation)' and '공증(gongjeung: authentipication).' Because of a number of emabassies in the area, there are lots of offices that provide these services for VISA applicants, especially for the US.

Initially I was thinking about writing a caption for this sign but didn't do it as I thought it would be a bit long. But, a great deal of curiosity, this is what we, CDP bloggers are like.^-^V

Denton - That is also what demotivates postpeople they say. But I just sent a card to my friend in the Netherlands.;)

Interesting photo! :-)

That's a smart idea to have a partitioned mailbox instead of two separate ones like they do in the USA ... by the way, the US Postal Service mailboxes are dark blue.

Oh, I didn't know that you have seperate postboxes but I am aware of the colour.:) I even saw a picture of an R2D2 postbox in NYC. It was so great!

The system in Korea seem to be the same as the one in Japan. The mouth is for normal and the other for express. But I usually go to post office to send the irregular mail.

Here mailboxes are blue, in Belgium they are red.
